A Walt Disney World trip with kids is magical, and a little exhausting. Staying in a vacation home instead of a hotel room gives families space, routine and downtime that make park days better. Here are practical tips from our local team.
Plan fewer, better park days
Young kids rarely enjoy back-to-back 12-hour park days. Alternate park days with pool days, or plan a morning at the park, an afternoon nap at the house and an evening return. With a home nearby, the midday break is easy.
Use the kitchen
- Have breakfast at home before rope drop to save time and money.
- Pack snacks and refillable water bottles for the parks.
- Order groceries for delivery on arrival day so the fridge is ready.
Give everyone their own space
Separate bedrooms mean kids keep their bedtime while adults relax. Themed kids' rooms add to the excitement, and a game room is a great rainy-day backup.
Pool safety first
Florida vacation homes often have private pools. Always supervise children around water, keep doors and gates closed, use pool alarms or fences if the home provides them, and pack well-fitting swim vests for little ones.
Ask for baby gear
Many homes provide cribs, high chairs or pack-n-plays. Ask before you arrive so you can pack less.
Beat the Florida heat
- Visit the parks early and late, and rest during the hottest hours.
- Use sunscreen, hats and cooling towels.
- Bring ponchos for afternoon summer showers.
Build excitement before the trip
Watch the movies behind your favorite rides, let kids pick one must-do attraction each, and create a simple countdown. Kids who know what to expect enjoy the day more.
