Things to Do in Kissimmee Beyond the Theme Parks

  • Posted on

Kissimmee sits right next to Walt Disney World, but there is much more here than theme parks. If you have a rest day, arrive early or want a break from the crowds, these local favorites are worth adding to your plans.

1. Old Town Kissimmee

A walkable, retro-style entertainment district with rides, arcade games, shops and casual dining. On many weekends it hosts classic car cruises, which kids and grandparents both enjoy.

2. Gatorland

One of Orlando's original attractions, Gatorland is home to thousands of alligators and crocodiles, plus wildlife shows, a petting zoo and a zip line for thrill seekers. It is a fun half-day outing on the north side of Kissimmee.

3. Airboat rides on Lake Tohopekaliga

Lake Toho is Kissimmee's big natural lake. Airboat tours glide through the marshes, where you can often spot alligators, turtles and wading birds. Early morning and late afternoon tours tend to be the most comfortable.

4. Kissimmee Lakefront Park

A free, relaxing spot with a playground, splash pad, walking paths, a fishing pier and sunset views over the lake. Perfect for an easy evening with little ones.

5. Disney Springs

You do not need a park ticket to visit Disney Springs. Shopping, restaurants, live music and the evening atmosphere make it a favorite free night out, just a short drive from most Kissimmee homes.

6. Fun Spot America Kissimmee

Go-karts, roller coasters and classic arcade games in a smaller, easy-going park. It is a great choice for teens who want thrills without a full theme park day.

7. Dinner shows and evening entertainment

Kissimmee is known for themed dinner shows, including the medieval jousting show on US-192. They make a memorable night out for families with kids of all ages.

8. Nature and springs nearby

Central Florida is full of preserves and springs. Shingle Creek Regional Park offers paddling and trails, and several natural springs are within a day trip for swimming and snorkeling in clear, cool water.

9. Shopping on US-192 and nearby outlets

From souvenir shops to outlet malls, there is plenty to explore on a rainy day. Orlando's outlet malls are a short drive from Kissimmee.

10. Your own private pool

Sometimes the best activity is a lazy afternoon at the house. A private pool, game room and space to spread out are the reason many families choose a vacation home over a hotel.

Stay close to it all. Browse our Kissimmee vacation homes or explore them on the map.
